Becoming Caddo Parish Poet Laureate is a position and a task by which I’m honored to represent. For over 10 years plus I’ve provided Poetry and Spokenword as a passionate service to communities all across the state of Louisiana. Not only as a performer but as an educator, administrator, as well as curator. I’ve worked with non profit organizations, businesses, schools, leadership programs etc. Poetry has also been a tool for me to bridge the gap between Artistry and Entrepreneurship. In 2018, I founded Poet On Ya’ Poetry Fest. An annual event where poets, writers, authors, musicians, patrons, and community members are introduced to Performance, Publishing, Recordings, Events and more. Through a natural disposition for Poetry, I’ve exhibited a profound maintenance for the responsibilities attached. Being Poet Laureate would further advance my recognition as dedicated Poet. The position would compliment me well as an Art instructor. I’ve written a 3-9 month curriculum for Caddo Parish Students highlighting Poetry as the main course. I am Program Director for Poetrons, a Youth Poetry Group for ages 7-17. I have studied to show myself approved and have proved that I am worthy to represent Poets across the universe on many different levels. I want to see Poetry celebrated in educational institutions more often. I’ve published Poetry and led workshops to inspire other writers in getting their works published. I plan on using the leverage as Poet Laureate to uplift and motivate others. Words don’t die when their put on paper, they’re rejuvenated. Where persons, communities, departments, systems have been deprived to the Power of Poetry, It is my burning desire to utilize Poetry and stimulate many market places to embrace Poetry and form long lasting partnerships. Poetry is undoubtedly an essential energy source.
